OFW deployment remains robust despite crisis, says labor chief

Despite the global financial meltdown, Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said Wednesday the deployment of Filipino workers for jobs in various destinations overseas remains robust.

Roque said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) continues to process the departure of close to 3,000 OFWs daily.

In an article on the Labor Department website (www.dole.gov.ph), he also downplayed reports that some 500,000 OFWs would be displaced due to the financial crisis.

He said the projected displacement was based on a worst-case scenario crafted to prepare appropriate responses to the impact of the financial crisis to OFWs. read full story
